Dwight “Skip” Koerber as referee at a recent soccer game

Please help the Clearfield Soccer Association reach our goal of $160,000 to match our DCNR grant of $160,000. Some of the improvements planned include: paving the entrance road, installing electric, installing a sewer line, constructing a pavilion, constructing a storage building, and improving playing surfaces. We have one of the nicest facilities in our area and these improvements will help to keep our program growing.

Over 500 kids of all ages play soccer at our complex every year; 180 volunteers put in over 7,000 hours every year! These are amazing numbers and with everyone’s help, we hope to keep growing.

What is a PA West team? A team that competes on Sunday afternoon against teams from surrounding communities as close as DuBois and Mo Valley or as far away as Bedford and Bellefonte. The players on the team are generally more interested in soccer and have a desire to become better players through training and experience playing against a higher level of competition. The coaches of these teams are also typically more experienced and better prepared to provide the players with a better opportunity to improve and gain confidence. It is well known that players who progress through the PA West team programs are better prepared to play for the middle and high school programs.

Why a try-out? A Try-out is necessary simply because there is a limited number of spaces on each team and if the number of kids interested in a given team exceeds the maximum roster allowance then we must make decisions based on that. The other reason is that not every young person is ready for this level of commitment and training and placing them on the team could prove detrimental to their development and enjoyment of the game

What is involved with a try-out? The process is relatively simple. Each player will come with a parent/guardian and sign in. There are two try-out sessions scheduled for each team. Our recommendation is that your child attends both for the best opportunity however only one is necessary for consideration. Each try-out typically lasts an hour or less and consists of some warm-up drills followed by open play. Two to four evaluators are assigned to each team try-out and collectively they make any decisions as deemed necessary. Player/families are notified of the results no later than 1 week after the try-outs are completed.
